The most tragic period was undoubtedly the death of Tammy Slaton‘s husband, Caleb Willingham, who unexpectedly passed away in the summer of 2023.
Who is Caleb Willingham?
Caleb Willingham was best known as Tammy’s husband and a beloved 1000-Lb Sisters character. Hailing from Evansville, Indiana, Caleb was also Facebook friends with other TLC stars, including 1000-LB Best Friends’ Meghan Crumpler.
Tammy met Caleb at the Windsor Lane Rehabilitation Center in Gibsonburg, Ohio, a weight loss facility they both attended.
After three weeks of knowing each other Caleb popped the question in the rehab parking lot and his proposal left Tammy speechless. Thankfully she said yes.
The lovebirds tied the knot at the facility on November 20, 2022, surrounded by 30 of their closest family and friends. Caleb couldn’t help but cry when he saw his bride enter the ceremony room, recalling his “heart exploded” upon seeing Tammy in her white wedding gown and tiara.
Caleb Willingham’s cause of death is yet to be revealed
Caleb died on June 30, 2023, days after celebrating his 40th birthday. His stepmother, Shirley, confirmed his passing to TMZ the following day but did not reveal details of the death case.
According to Radar, police said his passing was a natural death likely caused by a medical issue. Staff were with Willingham when he lost consciousness and paramedics were unsuccessful with their CPR attempts.
Tammy addressed her tragic loss, telling People that Caleb was her “best friend” and “guardian angel” who “really is watching over me.”
In November, the TLC star showed off her custom jewelry in honor of her late partner. Tammy wears a musical treble clef symbol around her neck made of his ashes to symbolize their shared love for music and a ring with his fingerprint.
Caleb and Tammy split rumors surfaced in April 2023
Five months into their marriage, fans speculated the couple had marital issues as Caleb told Facebook fans they were “married by paper only”, leaving him “hurt, mad, confused, and alone even with others around.”
“Her decision, not mine. It was more than that,” he said in the now-deleted post.
Fuel was added to the fire in May when Tammy was spotted without her wedding ring but she was still wearing a band on her right hand.
